Legal Counsel (Ref. 250328008) 

Duties 

The appointee will be required to: 

(a) advise on legal, regulatory and compliance matters which the University may encounter in its operation, including employment, equal opportunities, construction and facilities management, personal data, intellectual property management and enforcement, and technology and invention commercialisation; 

(b) draft, review and advise on legal documents including contracts, agreements, tender terms and conditions, handbooks, declarations and undertakings; 

(c) provide updates on current and upcoming legislations, regulations and guidelines of regulatory bodies applicable to the operations of the University or otherwise have potential impact on the operational or compliance risks of the University;

(d) support Head, Legal, Risk and Compliance in devising, conducting and implementing compliance training programmes on legislations, regulations and other applicable guidelines and other internal procedures; 

(e) assist Head, Legal, Risk and Compliance in coordinating and liaising with external lawyers/parties in the management of legal matters as well as supervision of subordinates (if any); and 

(f) perform any other duties as assigned by the Executive Vice President or her delegates. 

Qualifications 

Applicants should: 

(a) be a Hong Kong qualified lawyer with not less than eight years of post-qualification experience in major law firms or in-house legal departments of public bodies/sizeable corporations/University Grants Committee-funded institutions; 

(b) have extensive experience in managing compliance related incidents and responding to inquiries and other matters with regulatory bodies; 

(c) be able to articulate complex legal issues and concepts, analyse the associated risks, and provide clear and practical advice; 

(d) have an excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, including fluency in Cantonese and Putonghua;

(e) have strong interpersonal and communications skills; 

(f) have excellent skills in conducting training and presentation on legal and compliance matters; and 

(g) be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Preference will be given to those with Mainland practice qualification or qualification to practice as a lawyer in the Greater Bay Area. 

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a written test.

Conditions of Service 

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
