Background
EDU 8849ECD Putonghua Teaching in Primary Schools: Professional Skills (Practicum) is a 3-credit-unit, 8000-level, and year-long course for students of the Postgraduate Diploma in Education programme (distance-learning mode). This course is presented in Chinese (Putonghua).
This course aims to facilitate students to:
1. explain the current situation and trends of Putonghua teaching in Hong Kong;
2. master professional knowledge and application skills of Putonghua;
3. analyze important theories and methods of Putonghua teaching and evaluate them;
4. discuss how language teaching theories can be applied in Putonghua teaching;
5. design and develop lesson and unit plans;
6. design effective assessment strategies to monitor learning and reflection on teaching;
7. analyse, apply, and evaluate action research to enhance personal teaching standards.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
The appointee will be responsible mainly for the following:
- Preparing a course guide;
- Developing new course contents;
- Developing teaching and learning materials; and
- Developing assessment items.
Candidates
Candidates are expected to possess the following:
- A higher degree, and preferably an earned doctoral degree, in an area related to primary school education, Putonghua, or other related areas;
- An excellent command of written Chinese, effective communication skills and the ability to work independently; and
- Preference will be given to those who have experience in designing teaching and/or materials design at tertiary level.
