We are now looking for a suitable person to fill the following position in the School of Science and Technology:
Temporary Research Assistant II (R6578) (S&T) (Ref: 25000MY)
Major Duties and Responsibilities
The appointee will mainly assist the Principal Investigator in a research project "Effects of Microplastic Ingestion on the Growth of Marine Microplankton Grazers and Their Grazing Control on Algal Blooms" (R6578). He / She will be responsible mainly for the following:
- Maintaining micro-algae and protozoa cultures;
- Conducting eco-toxicity experiments in laboratories and occasionally carrying out samples collection in the field;
- Providing support in literature review and data analysis;
- Assisting in the purchases of laboratory equipment and materials; and
- Carrying out other research activities and ad-hoc tasks as instructed by the Principal Investigator.
Candidates
Candidates should possess the following qualifications, experience, and competence:
- A Bachelor’s degree or above in Biology, Environmental Science or a related discipline;
- Experience in cultivating protozoa or micro-algae;
- Experience in gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) and/or molecular techniques (e.g. DNA extraction, PCR and gel electrophoresis);
- Knowledge in the taxonomy of marine plankton would be an advantage;
- Strong sense of responsibility, self-motivated, and good interpersonal skills; and
- Good command of English and Chinese, including Putonghua.
Terms and Conditions for Appointment
Successful candidate will be appointed on a temporary full-time contract. Benefits will be provided in accordance with the statutory provisions.
