We are now looking for a suitable person to fill the following position(s) in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences:

Full-time Research Assistant I (Biostatistics or Data Science) (N&HS) (Ref: 25000ON)

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will assist the Principal Investigator, Dr. Maggie Kwok, in ongoing research projects with a focus on the etiology of major non-communicable diseases including cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and dementia. He/She will be responsible mainly for the following:

• Coordinating the project implementation including sample extraction, genotyping and biomarker assaying;
• Managing and processing large biomedical or health datasets;
• Developing and implementing basic and advanced quantitative statistical analyses related to the epidemiological projects;
• Writing statistical codes for genetic analyses (e.g., phenome-wide association studies (PheWAS), multi-omics, colocalization), machine learning algorithms, web programming, and artificial intelligence applications
• Drafting scientific publications, reports and presentations;
• Performing administrative, operational and other duties as assigned.

Candidates

Candidates should possess the following qualifications, experience and competence: 

• Master’s degree in biostatistics, data science, epidemiology, pharmacology or related disciplines;
• Prior experience in health-related research, preferably in genetic epidemiology or pharmacology, with high proficiency in statistical programming languages (e.g., R, Stata, Python);
• Familiarity with machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch), web programming (e.g., HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) and artificial intelligence applications (e.g., natural language processing, computer vision) is an advantage;
• Good command of written and spoken English;
• Strong sense of responsibility and ability to work independently;
• Good communication and interpersonal skills; and
• Effective in multi-tasking and time management.

Duration of Appointment

Successful candidates will be appointed on a full-time contract, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability. Benefits will be provided in accordance with the statutory provisions.
