The German Swiss International School (GSIS) is one of Hong Kong's leading international schools providing quality, holistic education to a multinational student body of approximately 1250 students and 240 faculty and staff. The school is organised into two Streams, German and English leading to qualifications in the German International Abitur and I/GCSE & IBDP respectively. HEAD OF MUSIC (ENGLISH INTERNATIONAL STREAM – PRIMARY SCHOOL)

The successful candidate will be teaching in the Primary School and will be an excellent music classroom practitioner who is dedicated to enabling each child to achieve the highest possible standards in creative music education.  She/he will be expected to be up-to-date with current music teaching and learning practices including differentiated learning, assessment and reporting. She/he will be a dynamic, open-minded and enthusiastic music practitioner who is dedicated to creating learning experiences and performance opportunities designed to engage every student and instill a love of music throughout our school community.  Teaching experience in an International context is desirable. 

What is required and what we’re looking for

• Primary Teacher qualification (Music specialism)
• Minimum of 5 years full time teaching experience preferred
• High standards as a performing musician
• Establish a culture of high expectations and professional responsibility
• Build effective collaborative learning communities within and beyond the school/ department
• Support colleagues in ensuring effective curriculum coverage, continuity, progression, support and challenge
• Present a coherent, understandable and accurate account of music learning programmes and performance to a range of audiences, including senior leaders, the board and parents
• Pedagogical approaches which promote creativity, deep thinking independence and engagement
• A bank of effective assessment strategies, collection methods and tools for tracking student learning and progress in music, in and across year groups
• Excellent English speaker with sound written and oral communication skills (native speaker level)
• Culturally sensitive, tolerant and patient
• Positive, proactive and independent work ethic
• A willingness to contribute to extra-curricular Music & Arts activities
