Victoria Shanghai Academy (VSA) is a private independent, non-denominational, co-educational day school established in 2004 under the auspices of the Victoria Shanghai Education Foundation Limited, a registered charitable body.

VSA is an IB World School and the first in Hong Kong authorised to deliver three of the International Baccalaureate Programmes, providing a “through-train” IB education for students aged 6 to 18. The Primary School was authorised as an IB Primary Years Programme school in December 2005. In the Secondary School, the Middle Years Programme (“MYP”) and Diploma Programme (“DP”) were authorised in December 2006 and June 2007 respectively.

VSA emphasizes a holistic approach to education, at the heart of which is inquiry-based learning and teaching. The Primary School offers a bilingual education (English and Putonghua); the Secondary School curriculum is delivered in English and supplemented by a strong Chinese programme.

VSA has approximately 2,000 students and over 200 teaching staff. In Secondary, there are over 100 faculty members, consisting of local and expatriate staff.

Visual and Performing Arts Technician for Secondary Section

VSA is now recruiting an enthusiastic and committed person for the above position for the school year beginning August 2023.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist with the organization and support of events such as musical concerts, drama productions, art exhibitions and student assemblies
  • Assist subject teachers with preparing teaching materials
  • Liaise with technicians, colleagues, site manager and communications team when hosting an event
  • To provide administrative support to the Arts Department
  • Specifics in subject areas:

Music and Theatre

    • Organising for instruments to be tuned and maintained
    • Assist in collating scripts and music
    • Organising and keeping an inventory of music equipment
    • Ordering new equipment. Organising storage of equipment.
    • Assisting with making props, painting set piece
    • Source costumes, adjust and sew costumes as needed
    • Arrange logistics to move scenery and costumes to the performance area
    • Backstage manager for props and costumes in productions
    • Organisation of props and costumes in drama rooms.


Visual Arts

    • In-class support as needed for resource or material heavy lessons such as plaster casting, sculpture, ceramics
    • Assist with ceramics program, assist in lessons, kiln maintenance, track the kiln firings, keep an inventory and procurement of ceramic equipment and materials.
    • Maintaining inventory of materials and equipment, ordering supplies as needed. Organisation of equipment storage.
    • Assist with exhibition displays: Prepare student work for display (mounting 2D works, attaching labels), putting up students work, organizing lighting, changing displays


Requirements:

  • Qualifications in Visual Arts / Music / Drama or related disciplines
  • Experience in supporting musical and drama production as well as visual arts exhibition an asset
  • Willingness to learn new skills outside of previous discipline experience
  • Strong initiative and able to work independently and manage time and resources
  • Good communication, interpersonal and research skills
