The Division of Emerging Interdisciplinary Areas (EMIA) envisions to foster the agile development of new education programs, contribute to identifying emerging cutting edge and niche topics, and coordinate interdisciplinary education and research initiatives within and outside HKUST for agile development of emerging areas. The Division will serve as a cross-disciplinary platform facilitating scholars from different departments, campuses and universities to incubate and drive research agenda for new and emerging interdisciplinary areas.

Applications are invited from outstanding young researchers for the position of Research Assistant Professor in any interdisciplinary areas, including, but not limited to, (i) Artificial Intelligence; (ii) Computational Media and Arts; (iii) Scientific Computing and (iv) Art-Tech. The appointee is expected to develop their own research program(s) and take the lead on individual research project(s) to obtain competitive research funding. The appointee will also be involved in teaching or co-teaching postgraduate or undergraduate courses.

Applicants should have a recognized PhD degree in related disciplines. Ideal candidates should have a strong commitment to research and teaching excellence, with the potential to conduct innovative research. A good track record of securing competitive research grants and a substantial publication record would be advantageous.

Salary is highly competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made on a fixed-term 2-year contract. Contract renewal will be subject to performance, funding availability and mutual agreement. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits. Housing allowance may be provided where applicable.
