Major Duties: To
(a) conduct courses and practical training on port services and seamen’s training / marine engineering and marine-related courses, and supervise instructors in course delivery;
(b) recruit trainees and provide job placement assistance to trainees;
(c) prepare and analyze statistical records and periodical reports on trainee recruitment and placement;
(d) formulate and carry out publicity programmes, road shows, exhibitions and career seminars;
(e) liaise with schools, employers, employers’ associations and relevant government departments to promote trainee recruitment and placement;
(f) handle correspondence in relation to course publicity and administration, and answer enquiries regarding trainee recruitment and job placement; and
(g) assist in: (i) planning and developing courses / training modules; (ii) preparing programme plan, financial estimates, purchase and requisition, training and resources deployment plans; (iii) strengthening the networks with industries, professional bodies and government departments; and (iv) implementing the quality management system and safety management system.
Requirements:
(a) A recognized relevant higher diploma or equivalent;
(b) At least 6 years’ relevant industry experience (including experience on board ships) at supervisory level or teaching experience in recognized maritime training institutions;
(c) Certificate of Competency (Class 2) of Deck Officer or Engineer in Ocean-going or River Trade. Applicants holding a relevant Certificate of Competency (Class 3) may also apply;
(d) Preferably Certificates of Standards on Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) 95/STCW 2010 training in first aid, fire-fighting, survival crafts and personal survival techniques;
(e) Good language proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese, preferably including Putonghua;
(f) Proficiency in computer software applications; and
(g) The ability to pass a trade test.
Notes:
(1) Candidates without the required academic qualification stated in the Requirement (a) but possessing 12 years’ maritime work experience (including on-board experience in ocean-going or river trade) in supervisory rank or teaching experience in recognized maritime training institutions may also apply. Where applicable, these candidates may be required to have a Qualifications Framework (QF) Level 3 qualification.
(2) The post is in the rank of Senior Instructor.
(3) The appointee will be required to wear working gear provided by the Institute.
(4) The appointee may be required to perform duties outside normal office hours and in designated places as assigned.
