Faculty of Law
The Faculty of Law at The Chinese University of Hong Kong is one of the most dynamic and successful law schools in Asia. Since admitting its first students in 2006 it has grown in scale and reputation. With more than 1,300 students enrolled in its programmes (LLB, LLM, JD, Postgraduate Certificate in Laws and MPhil / PhD) it is the largest provider of legal education in Hong Kong, and it is ranked in the top 50 law schools worldwide by both the Times Higher Education and QS rankings systems. Its strength in research was recognised in the 2014 Research Assessment Exercise conducted by the Hong Kong University Grants Committee when it was ranked ahead of all other law schools in Hong Kong with 64% of its research ranked as “world leading” or “internationally significant”.
In line with its strategy for planned growth, the Faculty of Law invites applications for appointment as Professor, Associate Professor or Assistant Professor. In recruiting new colleagues, the Faculty’s principal consideration is always excellence, and so expressions of interest are welcome from scholars in all fields of law. However, applicants with interests in the following areas are particularly encouraged to apply: Oil & Gas Law; Comparative Constitutional Law; International / Comparative Criminal Justice; International Economic Law; Property Law; Common Law.
All professors are expected to contribute to research, teaching and service. Applicants for appointment as Professor must have a demonstrated record of leadership in all three areas. Applicants for appointment as Associate Professor should be able to demonstrate potential for leadership in all three areas.
The Faculty has a record of high-quality teaching and research. Applicants at all levels will be expected to demonstrate their capacity as teachers as part of the recruitment process. Applicants should also be able to demonstrate a track-record and/or capacity for producing research that has impact within the academy and in the wider community.
The Faculty has a strong international outlook with twenty jurisdictions (by origin or training) reflected in its academic staff. The Faculty is committed to fostering diversity in its recruitment and encourages applications from all candidates whose background and experience will enhance the diversity of our faculty.
Appointments will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially, which, subject to mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment or substantiation later. Further information about the Faculty is available at http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/law.
Applicants should complete the online application form and upload a full curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching, a statement of research, a publication list and/or abstracts of selected published papers, copies of qualification documents, and names, addresses and fax numbers/e-mail addresses of three referees who have agreed with the applicant to provide a reference. Applicants who would like to discuss these positions informally with the Dean of Faculty are invited to contact the Dean by clicking Apply Now.
The Faculty expects to interview shortlisted candidates during November and December 2018.
