Manager, Business Development (at the rank of Executive Officer) in the Faculty of Business and Economics (Ref.: 508382) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal)
Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree in business administration or equivalent professional qualifications, with a minimum of 5 years’ commercial experience in Asia, preferably in service industries such as business schools, learning and development (L&D), and corporate education, with proven revenue growth results. They should have outstanding communication and organisational skills and experience in consultative selling and key account management. Applicants should be customer-focused with proven ability in developing trusting relationships with coworkers and business partners, and be able to work in a fast-paced and high-performance environment. They should also have successful track record in entrepreneurial leadership, business acumen, and extensive business development experience. Applicants should demonstrate experience in and understanding of managing and representing a premium brand such as HKU Executive Education, and be adept at simultaneously managing multiple objectives and clients with integrity, with bias to action, tolerance for process, as well as a sense of humour.
The appointee is expected to provide support in developing strong client relationships with the senior managements and influencers in target organisations / segments to understand their talent management strategies, systems and processes, and respond appropriately to their needs. He/ She should articulate the value proposition to clients and propose solutions which meet their talent development needs; grow the Executive Education revenue through sales and development activities; systematically prospect for and convert leads into sales (hands-on sales role); track and maximise profitability of Executive Education programmes individually and as an integrated portfolio; interpret industry trends, patterns, demographics, effectiveness of historical marketing efforts etc.; and continually evaluate competitive environment and provide analysis and recommendations to improve business results. The appointee will work closely with the team and clients to assure strong ongoing client relationships and support successful implementation of programmes; ensure programmes are effectively and adequately marketed; propose marketing initiatives as needed to increase enrollments; collaborate with colleagues within the team and the School to develop and implement targeted marketing campaigns; create and coordinate development of presentation materials to support lead and sales generation; work within a programme sales budget, including helping to manage all programme-related sales and marketing expenses (i.e. advertisement, direct response, and brochure). He/ She will observe programme sessions and interact with programme participants for the purpose of gaining customer insight, strengthening programme knowledge and optimising marketing efforts; support business development strategy and activities with a focus on demand generation, lead nurturing and client conversion; identify platforms and opportunities for Executive Education to communicate value proposition and extend outreach; and manage sales plan execution, ensuring on-target delivery. The appointee will work at the Faculty’s Cyberport campus and may be required to work outside normal office hours.
