M+ is a museum dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Within Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District we are building one of the largest museums of modern and contemporary visual culture in the world, with a bold ambition to establish ourselves as one of the world’s leading cultural institutions. Our aim is to create a new kind of museum that reflects our unique time and place, a museum built upon Hong Kong’s historic balance of the local and the international to define a distinctive and innovative museum for Asia’s twenty-first century.

 

The M+ Pavilion, which opened in September 2016, serves as the primary site for M+ exhibitions in the run-up to the completion of the M+ building. After M+ opens it will become a new space for artists, designers and organisations to stage independent small-scale exhibitions and events in the Art Park.

 

M+ Internship Programme (Intake 2018) (Ref: 17201)

M+ Internship Programme is a unique opportunity for those who are interested in developing a career in the museum field. Interns will be able to work closely with M+’s professional staff full-time for a period of one year and gain practical and theoretical training.

Besides working on their specific projects under the supervision of their assigned mentors, the interns will also have the chance to learn from curators and senior members of the team in a series of sharing sessions. This is a paid internship that runs on a recurring basis, with openings every year. The internship is available in the following areas: CuratorialCollections Management and Conservation.

Curatorial internship

The Curatorial Internships provide hands-on training for people who are interested in gaining curatorial experience in a museum setting. Working under the supervision of one of our curators as their mentor, the interns will be assisting them on upcoming exhibitions and curatorial initiatives, digital projects, and learning and interpretation programmes.

 

You will be able to:

  • learn about M+, its current development, collection and programmes;
  • research on topics that will contribute to the development of the museum and upcoming programmes;
  • gain practical and theoretical training in museum curatorial work through active involvement in our on-going projects while working closely with the M+ team; and
  • assist and take part in M+ events such as internal workshops, public events and other digital and learning and interpretation programmes.

 

You need to:

  • possess a recognised university degree or equivalent qualification in art, design, architecture, moving image, art education, museum studies or a related subject;
  • have strong interest in working professionally in the museum field;
  • possess some relevant working experience is preferred but not required; and
  • have a good command of spoken and written English and Chinese (Cantonese / Mandarin).

 

Collections Management Internship

The Collections Management Intern will work under the supervision of a M+ Registrar. The internship will provide the intern with the opportunity to develop practical skills in a museum environment and to learn how curatorial and collections professionals are involved in the process of building and maintaining an active collection. The internship will also provide interns with the opportunity to inspect the areas of archives, exhibition and database management at M+.

 

You will be able to:

  • develop practical skills in a museum environment;
  • work alongside a diversity of museum professionals and learning about the process of building and maintaining an active collection;
  • work on projects related to documenting the permanent collection, inventorying and cataloguing objects, assisting with incoming and outgoing loans, exhibitions, database management, and special projects; and
  • be exposed to all phases of registration and learn about archiving and museum ethics, exhibition and database management.

 

You need to:

  • possess a recognised university degree or equivalent qualification in art, design, architecture, moving image, art education, museum studies, heritage preservation or a related subject;
  • have strong interest in working professionally in the museum field, with particular focus on record keeping and preventative preservation of objects;
  • be extremely attentive to detail and highly organised with strong observation;
  • be familiar with computer softwares, including the Microsoft Office, database management, and file format conversion software preferred; and
  • have a good command of spoken and written English and Chinese (Cantonese / Mandarin).

 

Conservation internship

The Conservation Intern will work under the supervision of a M+ Conservator. The internship will provide the intern with the opportunity to gain an understanding of the role of Conservation within the museum environment and to learn about main issues related to preventative conservation and basic conservation treatment of a growing collection.

 

You will be able to: 

  • have the opportunity to become acquainted with the daily conservation activities within the museum environment and will offer exposure to considerations that are unique to the conservation of contemporary visual culture;
  • learn and support general exhibition and related conservation activities such as writing condition reports, conducting gallery inspections, and measuring climate in gallery spaces;
  • assist with conservation laboratory maintenance, filing of conservation documentation, and participate in routine maintenance of the storage spaces; and
  • be given hands-on instruction with supplementary readings and involved in discussions of current standards and practices.

 

You need to:

  • possess a recognised university degree or equivalent qualification in art, design, architecture, moving image, art education, museum studies, heritage preservation, chemistry or a related subject;
  • have strong interest in working professionally in the museum field, particularly on the physical preservation of objects; basic understanding of collection care processes would be preferred;
  • be well organised, able to work carefully (have good hand skills), independent, and follow instructions; and
  • have a good command of spoken and written English and Chinese (Cantonese / Mandarin).

藏品管理實習計劃的實習生將由資深藏品管理主任親自指導。計劃提供博物館實務訓練,讓實習生有機會參與建立及管理一個不斷擴充的藏品的過程,從中了解策展及藏品管理等專業範疇。此外,實習生將獲安排參與文獻、藏品數據庫及展覽服務等M+項目。

你將有機會:

  • 得到一系列博物館實務訓練,發展所長;
  • 與博物館專業團隊的不同成員合作,了解如何建立及管理一個不斷擴充的藏品;
  • 負責相關項目,包括紀錄永久藏品、清查藏品及編製清單、協助藏品的借入及外借、籌辦展覽、管理藏品數據庫及其他特定項目; 及
  • 參與藏品登記工作的所有步驟,並獲委派特定項目,集中研究藏品歸檔及博物館工作操守。

 

你必須:

  • 持有認可大學學位或同等學歷,主修藝術、設計、建築、影像、藝術教育、博物館研究、文物保護或相關學科;
  • 有志投身博物館工作,尤其對檔案管理及物品維護深感興趣;
  • 觀察力強,著重細節,極具組織能力;
  • 熟悉相關電腦軟件包括Microsoft Office、資料庫管理軟件及檔案格式轉換軟件為佳;及

藏品修復實習計劃

藏品修復實習計劃的實習生將由M+其中一位藏品修復員親自指導。計劃提供博物館實務訓練,讓實習生深入了解博物館的藏品修復工作,以及如何為不斷擴充的藏品作預防性保護。

你將有機會:

  • 得到一系列博物館實務訓練,包括熟習不同形式的日常藏品修復工作,並接觸與當代視覺文物有關的特別修復措施及背後考慮因素;
  • 了解並支援常設展覽的藏品保護工作,例如撰寫展品狀況報告、巡視畫廊、調校展館燈光等;
  • 協助實驗室維護工作、處理藏品修復文件歸檔工作,並負責藏品庫的日常空間管理; 及
  • 於工作期間得到實務指導,輔以相關參考文章,並對現時藏品管理標準與做法作深入討論。

 

你必須:

  • 持有認可大學學位或同等學歷,主修藝術、設計、建築、影像、藝術教育、博物館研究、文物保護、化學或相關學科;
  • 有志投身博物館工作,尤其對物品修復深感興趣;擁有相關工作經驗者可獲優先考慮;
  • 極具組織力,細心專注,擅於手藝,具獨立工作能力,並能嚴格遵從指示; 及
