Associate Librarian (User Services and User Experience) (Ref. 250423012-IE)
Duties
Reporting to the University Librarian, the appointee will be responsible for leading the User Services and User Experience Division and integrating AI and digital technologies into library services to enhance user experience and operational efficiency.
The appointee will be required to:
(a) be a member of the Library Management Team, collaborating with other members on the development and policies of the Library;
(b) lead the User Services and User Experience Division, oversee the Access & Facilities Section and the User Experience Section;
(c) enhance user experience and transform library counter services and workflow with AI and digital technologies;
(d) oversee physical access management, including library card applications and issuance, using AI and digital solutions;
(e) ensure efficient management of library facilities using AI and digital technologies, which cover approximately 21,000 m² of space and 4,600 study places, one-third of which are movable;
(f) coordinate user inquiries, suggestions, and complaints, ensure high-quality responses and effective follow-up actions using AI and digital technologies;
(g) oversee the circulation of all physical library collections, manage 1.1 million physical volumes in open stacks and remote storage, leveraging AI and digital solutions;
(h) oversee the Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Services to ensure timely and efficient access to resources not available in the Library;
(i) assess user experience, service standards, key performance indicators, operational risks, and benchmarking data to drive continuous improvement;
(j) ensure library policies and procedures comply with University standards and local regulations and laws;
(k) develop and implement AI-related training programs for library staff;
(l) coordinate library team-building activities to promote a positive and collaborative work environment among library staff;
(m) liaise with Library Liaison Officers of all academic departments, the Student Library Liaison Group, and other non-academic units of the University to address user needs and foster collaboration; and
(n) perform any other duties as assigned by the University Librarian or her delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
(a) a recognised degree with at least ten years of postgraduate qualification in Library Science or Information Science;
(b) extensive experience in managing academic libraries, accessing library user experience, and outreaching to library users;
(c) a proficient understanding of AI and digital technologies in academic libraries; and
(d) outstanding customer service, communication and team-building abilities.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
