Assistant Librarian II (Metadata and Bibliographic Services) (Ref. 250423014-IE)
Duties
Reporting to the Senior Assistant Librarian (Metadata and Bibliographic Services), the appointee will be responsible for leveraging AI and digital solutions to create and manage metadata for the Library’s various open access portals.
The appointee will be required to:
(a) oversee mandatory deposition of final accepted manuscripts of PolyU publications into the PolyU Institutional Research Archive (PIRA), leveraging AI and digital solutions;
(b) liaise with academic departments on the mandatory deposition of final accepted manuscripts into PIRA;
(c) utilise AI and digital technologies to enhance metadata creation for Library’s open access portals, including PIRA, PolyU Research Data Repository, PolyU E-Theses Database, PolyU Open Educational Resources Portal, PolyU Outstanding Work by Students and Digital Collections Portal;
(d) supervise a team of library assistants to process PIRA submissions, ensuring that the deposited manuscripts comply with publishers’ open access requirements and maintain metadata accuracy;
(e) review the workflow, policies and procedures of PIRA to enhance effectiveness and efficiency; and
(f) perform any other duties as assigned by the University Librarian or her delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
(a) a recognised degree in relevant subject disciplines such as computer science, with a postgraduate qualification in Library Science or Information Science;
(b) at least five years of solid experience at supervisory level, preferably involving AI-related projects or experience with an institutional repository;
(c) a good understanding of AI technologies and their applications in libraries, as well as metadata standards and open access principles;
(d) strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team of supporting staff;
(e) good interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills; and
(f) a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
