Analytics Librarian/Senior Analytics Manager (at the rank of Assistant Librarian I/II) in the University Libraries (Ref.: 517089) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal)
Applicants should possess: (1) a Bachelor’s degree and a recognized professional qualification in data science, statistics, business analytics; and a Master’s degree in library and information science (e.g. M.L.S. or equivalent) OR an advanced degree relevant to the position; (2) at least 5 years’ post-qualification working experience in business intelligence; (3) experience in data manipulation, statistical analysis, predictive modelling techniques and data visualization; (4) working knowledge of data analytics tools; (5) the ability to work independently to analyze data and solve complex problems logically, systematically and creatively; (6) basic knowledge of library functions and processes with the ability to advise or recommend continuous improvement solutions; and (7) good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills in both English and Chinese. Those with lower qualifications and/or less experience may be considered for appointment at the rank of Assistant Librarian II.
Reporting to the Associate Librarian, Digital Development and Technology Support Services and working within a growing digital development team, the Analytics Librarian will work closely with Librarians and others across the Libraries’ network. He/She will be responsible for developing a technical expertise on practical solutions of data analysis, data insight, and on data mining and visualization. The appointee will undertake the following duties: (i) collect, analyse, build visualizations and dashboards in data platform, and generate reports for quantitative and qualitative data gathered from various sources (including library systems, vendor statistics, observations, surveys, web analytics, etc.); (ii) liaise with data owners to identify and collect information about data collections at the University; (iii) communicate findings, and mine vast amounts of data for useful insights to influence/suggest how an organisation approaches business challenges; (iv) analyze data from multiple perspectives, looking for trends that highlight problems or opportunities; (v) analyze data for trends and patterns and to find answers to specific questions; and (vi) assist in policy formulation for effective data management and analysis for business assessment.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
