Whether in their final year at university or recent graduates, Hong Kong’s youngsters are at a stage in their lives when decisions about their future are to be taken. Some might have already settled on their choice of career and are seeking trainee programmes and internships; others might still be ruminating on what path they wish to take, and may want to see if there are options open to them they had not previously thought of.
The recent Classified Post Career Forum catered to all such groups. The daylong event on November 24 at InnoCentre in Kowloon Tong was a hive of activity, with attendees taking advantage of a host of recruitment openings, topical seminars, and networking opportunities on offer.
More than 40 organisations were on hand to share information and advice about vacancies, careers, and trainee programmes. These were drawn from industries as varied as finance, retail, entertainment, law enforcement, engineering, and aviation.
A range of seminars throughout the day saw high-ranking executives and experts take to the stage and deliver presentations on industry trends and the future of work.
One of the centrepieces of the forum was, as ever, the opportunity to take part in the Shadow a CEO Programme selection process. The programme gives successful applicants the chance to spend three days working alongside one of Hong Kong’s top senior executives, offering them a glimpse of what it takes to succeed at the summit of the business world. They will also glean some invaluable advice on management and leadership.
Shortlisted applicants were interviewed at the forum by representatives of recruitment specialists Kelly Services. Twenty-four candidates were selected to advance to a further round of interviews, where each of the four participating companies – the South China Morning Post, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, Schneider Electric, and Autodesk – will select up to three candidates to shadow a senior executive.
Kelly Services also dispensed résumé recommendations in its role as onsite “CV Doctors”. Attendees visited the company’s booth to get one-on-one expert advice on how to improve their CV – from highlighting key attributes to tailoring CVs for different employers.
The forum was rounded off with the second Young Marketer of Tomorrow contest, co-organised by Classified Post and Sun Life Hong Kong. More than 70 teams battled it out in the preliminary rounds, with six of them vying for the ultimate prize in the afternoon’s final.
The next Classified Post Career Forum will be held in March 2018.
