The Classified Post Career Forum is the easiest way to learn about the latest employment trends, and it also helps attendees discover how to take the first steps in a career. The Forum also allows attendees to get up front and personal with potential hiring companies.
Taking place today at the InnoCentre in Kowloon Tong from 10am to 6pm, the 10th edition of the twice-yearly Career Forum will feature a platform of career-boosting activities in a convenient and relaxed networking environment. With representatives from more than 40 premium local and overseas organisations on-hand to talk about their current employment needs and management trainee programmes, the Career Forum provides a one-stop opportunity to learn about a wide range of professions and industries. Even for those that are not actively seeking a job or management trainee position, the Forum will provide an opportunity to gather information about a variety of organisations and industries that may help with future career-making decisions.
While interviews with company representatives at today’s Career Forum are more for informational rather than hiring purposes, it is still a prime opportunity to make contact and talk about yourself, practice impressing potential employers, and fine-tune having a professional conversation while focusing on becoming an engaged listener. Attendees should ask what positions are being recruited for, and request details about work and career opportunities. But they should not ask, “What are you going to do for me?” That is a no-no question if you expect a career conversation to go any further.
Geared towards young jobseekers who want to understand different industry sectors and career options, a series of topical presentations will be delivered throughout the day by industry experts from a wide range of business disciplines. Meanwhile, as so much depends on a CV making a good first impression, professional “CV Doctors” will provide one-on-one CV-enhancing consultation services to those who reserve a time slot.
Three winners will be selected to join the Shadow a CEO programme, a signature event of the Classified Post Forum which is highly regarded by jobseekers. The popular programme enables winning applicants to spend three days working alongside a senior executive, experiencing the world of business through his or her eyes.
Organised in association with Sun Life Financial, teams from more than 100 entries shortlisted for the Young Marketer of Tomorrow contest will compete in the final rounds for the opportunity to pitch the perfect business plan. Alex Ho, general manager, recruitment, and circulation and syndication business at the Post says the contest provides a platform to untap new talent that companies can use to grow their businesses. “We believe that Young Marketer of Tomorrow participants can provide innovative yet practical ideas that help fulfil future business objectives,” says Ho.
Another feature on the busy Career Forum agenda is a briefing session outlining the key features of the second Classified Post Hackathon, which will take place November 17 to 19 at the Hong Kong Science Park, Sha Tin. Organised by Classified Post, the hackathon invites teams of three to five members, made up of Hong Kong undergraduate students or graduates with a maximum of two years’ experience, will have 24 hours to build apps, tools and innovative solutions for use in the media and insurance industries.
