HONG KONG: Credited for helping lead social network Facebook’s charge into Asia, Sunita Kaur, is joining Spotify to head up the region as the music service continues its growth across the continent.
As Spotify’s director for Asia, Kaur will drive the strategic direction for the company across the region following the music service’s launch in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia this April.
Sunita’s responsibilities will include overseeing Spotify’s expansion across Asia, as well as managing the region’s sales division.
“Spotify has been leading the music revolution across Europe and the US, and the opportunity to help continue that journey into Asia was one I wasn’t going to miss,” Kaur said.
With over 17 years’ experience in the industry, including print stints at Time Warner and Singapore Press Holdings, Sunita was associate director, Singapore, and international accounts at Microsoft Advertising before moving to Facebook as director for Asia in 2010.
“We’ve been waiting for Spotify to arrive in Asia for a while and the reception we’ve received has been overwhelming,” Kaur said.
“We give you access to one of the world’s largest and most diverse music catalogues – for free. That’s an unbeatable deal, and one that’s helped us build a big audience in just a few short weeks. This is just the beginning for Spotify in Asia.”
Kaur will be based in Spotify’s Singapore office.
