Finance, sales, marketing, events and F&B positions
Grand Hyatt Hong Kong
It is not just by chance that the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong won the Aon Hewitt Best Employer award for Asia Pacific.
The company not only offers its staff plenty of international career development opportunities, it also gives them the key, by means of an indepth and systematic learning and development programme that takes employers through the first baby steps all the way to a leadership position with the five-star hotel.
Employing around 830 people, the hotel is now hiring for 30 positions, including manager and below, across several departments, such as sales and marketing, rooms, food and beverage (F&B), finance, events and a chef de cuisine for pastry.
The hotel is looking for staff who are sincere and flexible, have initiative and can work well in a team. “They have to have passion and the sincere desire to serve, produce quality work and achieve results,” says Vida Chow, area director of human resources.
Chow takes care of three Hyatt hotels in Hong Kong and a fourth in the Philippine capital of Manila.
Resourcefulness, teamwork and good communication skills are also desirable qualities. “In leadership positions, [staff] have to live the Hyatt values, demonstrating passion, translating the mission into action, and encouraging change,” says Chow.
Leaders should also inspire and promote learning. Employees are expected to show humility, respect, honesty and integrity, and be innovative and creative.
Learning and development is emphasised with personalised development plans. “There is a huge focus on career development,” says Chow. “There is a cross-exposure programme for more experienced individuals we would like to promote or reward.”
As part of the programme, staff will work in another property, most likely within Asia Pacific, for a few days to a week, in order to share practices.
The hotel organises sport events and contests, subsidises department outings and provides opportunities for staff to do good and contribute to society.
