The Hong Kong Institute of Education's international executive master of arts (IEMA) in educational leadership and change is the first of its kind in Asia.

Allan Walker, chair professor of international educational leadership, says the programme brings together education leaders from different backgrounds to stimulate meaningful discussions that can contribute to social and educational development in the region.

All courses are online, allowing students to learn at their own pace and to maintain full-time employment while studying. The courses make use of innovative instructional approaches such as simulations, inquiry-driven and problem-based learning, interactive video conferencing, video-based case studies, self-assessments, Skype conferences and discussion forums.

Each year, there will be a one-week residential course in an Asian city for students to meet up. This year, the course will be held in Bangkok. Educators from the mainland, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand and Australia will have the chance to sit together and share insights and challenges faced by schools in their respective region. 

The programme is suitable for principals, vice-principals, panel heads and teachers who are getting ready to pick up management role.

Applicants with a bachelor's degree and at least three years of teaching experience are welcome to join. Students are required to finish the course in four years.
