The more information graduates receive at the CPA Australia Career Expo, the better positioned they will be to choose a rewarding career, says Janet Bibi Ferreira, Baker Tilly's director of human resources and administration.
She says informed decision-making can pave the way for a better-planned career choice for employee and employer.
"The Career Expo is a wonderful opportunity to meet in an informal atmosphere where we can talk about the career prospects our firm can offer, our learning and sharing culture and the diversity of work our firm is involved in," Ferreira says. "Employee support and welfare is another area we are always happy to talk about.
She suggests that job-seekers ask questions about the range of services and practice areas provided by exhibitors.
For instance, does the client portfolio include small and medium-sized enterprises, and multinational corporations? Does the graduate training programme include job rotation? What are the short- and long-term career options with the firm?
Ferreira says she and her colleagues are proud to point out that most of Baker Tilly's Hong Kong directors have been promoted from within, showing the firm's dedication to talent development.
She says the expo also offers a relaxed platform where potential employers can develop an understanding of individual traits, motivational drives, expectations, and attitudes.
