The government is continuing its efforts to attract the right people to join the Immigration Department.
According to a spokesman, the department is looking to recruit about 100 immigration officers this year.
"An immigration officer is mainly required to perform general executive and supervisory duties in connection with the enforcement of immigration," the spokesman says. Applicants need to sit for two written examinations and pass a physical fitness test. They also need to attend two interviews to test their communication skills and knowledge about the department.
Minimum academic requirements for immigration officers are two passes in the HKALE, and Level 3 or Grade C or above in three subjects in the HKCEE, and they need to meet the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or Grade E or above in Chinese language and English language in the HKCEE.
All officers will undergo 25 weeks of training, and may be required to work outside Hong Kong. "We are looking for candidates with good communication skills, analytical and independent thinking, and have strong observation and leadership skills," the spokesman says. Degree holders are eligible for the degree pay point if they possess the requisite results in the Use of English and Use of Chinese papers in the Common Recruitment Examination,or equivalent.
