Saturday, 11am-5pm, The Wave, Kwun Tong
Offering a convenient one-stop-event, today’s Classified Post Forum provides attendees with an opportunity to meet potential employers, learn about different types of jobs and industries, seek out career advice, and even take the first steps towards securing a dream job.
Taking place at The Wave, 4 Hing Yip St, Kwun Tong from 11 am to 5 pm, and the 11th edition of the Career Forum is part of Classified Post’s commitment to help job seekers to explore their career horizons. With more than 30 premium employers offering more than 4,000 quality jobs across a wide range of industries, company representatives will be on hand to explain where career paths might lead to and provide details about trainee programmes and internships. Even for those not yet on the job hunt or seeking an internship, learning about the latest job market trends directly from employers can provide valuable information for future career planning. For instance, topical presentations by the Hong Kong Police Force and logistics firm Dachser Far East Limited and other exhibitors will provide Forum attendees with unique industry insights and career opportunities from experts in their respective fields.
Although the Career Forum takes place in an informal atmosphere, actively engaging with company representatives is a good opportunity to practice speaking with hiring managers, which is worthwhile preparation for future interviews. However, without the pressure of a formal job interview, it is still worth keeping in mind that company representatives will be looking at the individuals they are speaking to as potential future employees. This is a chance to market yourself to potential employers, so think about what you are going to say and how you are going to say it.
Always required when making a job or internship application, Forum attendees can complete an online registration to enjoy a free passport photo taking service at the event. Another feature on the busy Career Forum agenda is a briefing session outlining the key details of the Young Marketer of Tomorrow contest, which provides a high-profile platform for young aspiring marketers to unleash their creative skills. Organised by Classified Post in association with premium partner Tap & Go, the mobile payment subsidiary of HKT, the Young Marketer of Tomorrow contest is designed to provide participants with an opportunity to showcase their innovative skills, along with their technical capabilities and business acumen. Teams consisting of two to four university students from any academic discipline will have until 25 March to submit their outline plans ahead of the live presentations, final rounds of judging and prize presentations, which will take place on 31 March. Presentations can be delivered in either Cantonese or English.
Meanwhile, with so much riding on making a good first impression with an eye-catching CV, Adecco Personnel, will provide a one-on-one “CV Doctor” consultation service to help Career Forum attendees avoid common mistakes that could cost job applicants an interview. Joyce Cheung, Managing Director, Hong Kong & Macau at Adecco Personnel Limited, says common mistakes often include using both present and past tenses to describe internship and work experience responsibilities and spelling mistakes. “We understand the job market and want to help young people to succeed with their career aspirations,” says Cheung. For example, Cheung points out with artificial intelligence (AI) technology increasingly used to conduct the first CV screening process, it is vital to include “keywords” that will be identified as relevant to the job position being offered. “With hundreds of applications being screened in a matter of seconds, the AI technology will look for specific keywords that match job openings, job duties and qualifications,” explains Cheung.
