Le Meridien Cyberport hotel
With several Starwood hotels in Hong Kong, job applicants have a wide range of opportunities to join one of the Asia-Pacific region’s fastest developing hotel chains, with excellent career development opportunities across more than 1,000 properties worldwide.
Le Meridien Cyberport, part of the Starwood brand, is recruiting for a variety of positions in their front office, housekeeping, kitchen and food and beverage (F&B) operations.
“The hotel provides a great platform for our associates to progress in their jobs and gain further experience to grow and develop. We offer numerous opportunities for young, bright and enthusiastic candidates wanting to pursue their careers in the hospitality industry, not only here in Hong Kong, but also in the region and worldwide,” says the hotel’s executive assistant manager, Tim Bilfinger.
Requirements are high. As a lifestyle-oriented company, Le Meridien focuses on candidates who are enthusiastic, driven, passionate and excited about serving guests. They also need a positive outlook and a will to succeed.
“The most important trait is their attitude in wanting to make a career in this ever-so-demanding industry, and creating an experience for each of our guests,” says Rosemary Tam, director of human resources at the 177-employee hotel.
The hospitality industry demands a very thorough understanding of hotel guests, who come from many different countries and cultures. They also come from all walks of life, with expectations based on differing experiences.
“Being friendly, understanding, forthcoming, empathetic and genuine are key attributes for this job. All our associates know the importance of exceeding a guest’s expectations and creating a unique aura for them,” Tam says.
This includes not only being able to speak Cantonese, Putonghua and English, but also being able to say a few words in other languages, such as Korean or German, to impress guests who appreciate the effort. The hotel runs regular English classes for staff members in its various departments.
The core values of the Starwood “Journey” are playing as a team, going the extra length and doing the right thing. This forms the basis of daily duties, while Le Meridien’s values of “Chic, Cultured and Discovery” help to create the special guest experience.
Every newcomer is offered a one-day induction, followed by training classes and specific skills tuition.
There is also a variety of team activities. “These are based on our approach to engaging associates in work-life balance activities, such as sports, theme park outings, and team-building getaways,” Bilfinger says.
The hotel also joins in community social activities, such as the annual CyberRun, with a commitment to UNICEF and other charity fundraising.
