Entry Requirements: Candidates should have:
(a) A university degree AND a Master of Science degree in Food Science/Food Technology/Nutritional Science/Dietetics/Food Toxicology/Food Microbiology/Food Biotechnology, or related subjects from a Hong Kong university, or equivalent; preference will be given to candidates with a Master of Public Health or related discipline with training in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at post-graduate level;
(b)at least 10 years’ relevant post-graduate experience in food safety and related field, including standard setting work on food safety; 5 years of which should be in a position with supervisory responsibilities; and
(c)Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE), or equivalent; or Level 2/ Grade E or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) [Note (1)], or equivalent.
[Note: (1) For appointment purpose, ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 2’ in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.]
Duties:
(a)To supervise a team which is responsible for overseeing various food safety projects;
(b)To work with experts/stakeholders, including setting up project related working groups;
(c)To provide support for the working groups including the conduction of literature review, risk assessment, surveys, standard-setting and preparation of information papers for discussion in the working group etc;
(d)To make preparation for consultation on the proposed food safety measures based on the results of the project; and
(e)To perform any other duties assigned by senior officers.

Terms of Appointment:
Successful candidates will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for a period up to March 2018.
Gratuity: A gratuity may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the contract with consistently high standard of performance and conduct. Such gratuity, plus any contribution made by the Government to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) Scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will be equal to 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period.
Fringe Benefits: 14 days of paid annual leave whereas rest days, general holidays, maternity/ paternity leave, sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in accordance with the provisions of the Employment Ordinance.
