Communications Officer (Media and Publications)

Reporting to the Regional Communications Manager, this position is responsible for planning and managing public communications activities in Hong Kong which promote the profile and identity of the organisation, as well as its worldwide activities and humanitarian concerns, via media and targeted groups among the general public.

Main Responsibilities

  • Cultivate a network with key local, national and international (online and offline) media representatives in Hong Kong to develop their interest in stories related to MSF’s issues
  • Produce communications materials in a timely and accurate manner and dispense it to targeted audiences in Hong Kong
  • Promote public events and other visibility activities of MSF in Hong Kong
  • Support the communication needs of other MSF-Hong Kong institutional activities in the city, including fundraising and recruitment functions
  • Lead the production of MSF-Hong Kong publications in Hong Kong, including the bi-annual magazine “Borderline” and the MSF-Hong Kong Activity Report
  • Build up concrete contacts and network with key Chinese media in Southeast Asia and proactively pitch materials on the worldwide humanitarian work of MSF
  • Reactively respond to media requests from Macau which relate to MSF

The Ideal Candidate

  • University graduate with minimum 3 years’ journalistic or public relations experience
  • Good knowledge of local and regional media in Hong Kong
  • Ability to generate content and engage interest with online and social media channels
  • Fluency in both spoken and written English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin)
  • Strong interest and knowledge of world affairs
  • Clear commitment to the aims and values of MSF
  • Ability to work independently but also a good team player
  • Ability to work under pressure and to respect deadlines
  • Flexible working hours and willingness to travel at short notice to other MSF offices and field projects
